Colnago Bike Review - CLX 2.0
Colnago bikes don’t need much introduction. Colnago is a brand that is seen as the best bike manufacturer in the world.
People dream about owning a Colnago bike, owning a bit of history. I was no different. Having admired other people’s at many a race, I finally decided to take the plunge and buy one of my own.
I managed to get a relatively good deal on a Colnago CLX 2.0 Ultegra (2011) – it has the same features as a top-of-the-range Colnago bike but at a slightly more realistic price (for me!).
I absolutely love it, it really is a beautiful work of art. It is also a great bike to ride: it is stable, responsive, handles like a dream and is so comfortable. I normally start to ache if I spend too long on the drops but not on this bike!
So, some details about the bike:
It has a carbon frame and forks, Fulcram Racing wheels, a carbon seat post and Shimano Ultegra derailleurs, chain and cassette.
According to Colnago’s blurb, the top and down tube have stiffening ribs on them, and this, along with carbon fibre fork and leafshaped seatstays mean that there is plenty of lateral rigidity and it also absorbs vibration from the road well.
I would agree with this, it is certainly a stable bike to ride, and very comfortable. It is so responsive that I also feel confident riding it hard in pretty much all conditions, even on tight corners, greasy roads etc.
It may not be the fastest or most tri-specific bike but for me it offers such a smooth ride that I don’t feel like there is any compromise on speed. Whilst it isn't a triathlon specific bike it is great for training and then for racing, adding some clip on aerobars enables me to get that extra bit of speed.
I wanted a quality bike, that wouldn’t need any upgrades, and I am happy that that is what I have.
I think you get what you pay for with Colnago bikes, they are so well built and the difference compared to my old bikes and others I have tried is well worth any difference in cost.
If you want a stylish, fast bike I would highly recommend the Colnago CLX 2.0.
